Just a quick post..

to say that i've changed my header!

I know it doesn't look anywhere near as professional as the other illustration probably did, but since i've posted so many photos of my own work up here recently, i felt that I wanted a header that was completely my own work! So this one is! It's based on Florence Welch from Florence & the Machine - the amazing outfit she wore for Glastonbury which was designed by Topshop.

I hope you like it!

xoxo

p.s. scroll down for the photos from my photoshoot :)

Photoshoot!

Here are just a few photos i took yesterday with my friend. I made the design on the t-shirt myself in college, and needed some photos for my portfolio :) I wanted a edgy punk influenced shoot, and I couldn't think of anyone more ideal than my friend Kimi!

I have lots of more photos i took in a different outfit that i'll upload another day :)
xoxo

EDIT: the bottom photos have been cut out, as they're wider than the width of my blog, so you can click on them to see them properly in full :)

Spring/Summer trends 2010 - Deja Vu?

The Spring/Summer trends for 2010 have long been decided;
Double denim, floral, nude colours, tribal, underwear as outerwear, nautical, and digital prints to mention just a few.

Any of these sound familiar? Floral prints, tribal, nautical AND digital prints were definitely all seen last year.

This brought me to wonder; have designers finally succumbed to “recessionista” chic? Have they realised that it’s not ethical nor financially viable to buy a new trend every few weeks?It’s also worth noting that the other trends mentioned above; double denim, and nude colours, are all items that are easily accessible. Items that you would definitely be likely to pick up in your local charity shop! I wonder whether this was actually planned, or is it merely a coincidence? And if it really was planned, was it for ethical reasons or financial reasons?

‘Make do and mend’ – the post-war slogan, that symbolises an era of hardship, and financial difficulties - will this slogan be the key to fashion in 2010? Will we see more fashionistas customising old items from their wardrobe, and will charity shops become the place to shop rather than the likes of Topshop?

However perhaps this repetition of trends is due to ethical reasons, in which case it’s great to see the fashion industry taking responsibility, especially as they are in a very influential position.

It’s unclear exactly the reasoning behind this, and it could just purely be coincidence or a lack of inspiration – but wherever the reasoning is, it’s definitely a positive move in the world of Fashion.

P.s. i'm doing a photoshoot with my best friend on Friday, it's to go in as part of my portfolio, so i'll upload some of the photos from there in my next post! :)

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year everyone! I hope you all had a fabulous (almost wrote facebook then.. obsessed?!) christmas & new year!

The one thing i've really missed out on this year already, is post-christmas Sales! Infact I've only been shopping in the sales ONCE. And that was just a short trip to Topshop!
Which, to be fair, was so worth it! I bought a gorgeous jumpsuit <3 that I'll have to post a picture of at a later date - i've literally been wearing it EVERYWHERE. The only downside, is that I can't actually unzip it myself - so I have to make sure i'm with a very kind friend who doesn't mind unzipping me when I need the loo - haha!

I really wanted to post an outfit picture today, but my camera is playing up, so instead, I'm going to post some pictures of something I made in college a little while ago.

I had to make a dress out of bin bags, for our college 'Bin Bag Ball'. So here are some photos of my effort;

I had so much fun making it! This was the thing that made me change my mind about what degree course I want to do! Originally I wanted to do Graphic Design, but now i've applied to do Fashion Promotion & Imaging :-)
Anyone else applying to fashion-related courses? It's so nerve-racking waiting to hear back! Luckily i've heard back from all of my options, with interview requests. I'm so ridiculously nervous though!
Post soon!

Exciting Times!!

Sorry it's been a while since my last post, I had my assessment at college - and so i have been VERY busy!! It also meant i couldn't attend a very exciting VIP Blogging event that I was invited to :( I was so gutted!

But my work comes first i guess.. and hopefully it'll get me one step closer to actually working in the fashion industry!

I have something very exciting to post about though! An amazing site called Covert Candy.
They are offering a revolution in the world of online-shopping!

The concept of their site is simple: online clothes swapping.

Here's a quick idea of how it works:

1. Join the site, and upload a photo and description of an item of clothing that you would like to swap.

2. You list this item with a value of what you think the item is worth. Covert Candy have a points system, whereby £10 = 10 points, £1 = 1 point, pretty simple hey?

3. Then other users will 'request' this item. Once you accept this request, you then post the item (p&p is paid by you, so maybe consider this when listing the items value)

4. You will then receive the points that you sold item was worth.

5. With these points you are free to browse the site, and to use the points to buy something gorgeous off the site! - without feeling guilty about the cost, OR the environment.

Even writing about it is making me quite excited! It's such a simple but amazing concept for a website, I can't believe it hasn't come about sooner!
This is clearly the answer to eco-friendly chic!

Their concept is: "If we all open up our wardrobes and start trading clothes for free. We A) - would save money, and B) - would swerve the environmental implications of buying new stuff."

Pretty great concept in my opinion!
So what are you waiting for! So long as you are a resident of the UK, join up to Covert Candy today and start filling your wardrobe the guilt free way!

- a perfect way of getting rid of those ill-fitting christmas pressies, and getting rid of those winter blues!

There are lots of gorgeous vintage pieces on there too, that i cannot wait to browse through properly! I have so many clothes i need to get rid of, i'm definitely going to be using and abusing this site throughout the Christmas holidays!

If i don't post again, have a great christmas readers :) And take advantage of the discount code i have two posts down for a gorgeous jewellery site, when buying your xmas pressies :): loveheartsandcrosses

Florence Welch,

I wanted to leave the last blog up as long as possible, so as many people as possible noticed the discount code, but for those of you who haven't read it yet, 'loveheartsandcrosses' have given a special discount for readers of my blog!

So scroll down for your exclusive discount code :).

I want to post about one of my main style icons! She's also an amazing singer, i'm going to see her live tomorrow, so I thought it'd be an apt thing to post about.

Florence Welch, from Florence and the Machine!
Her style is forever changing, and she even once said herself that she thinks it'd be hard to keep up with her style as it's always developing. Her stage look for the summer was very gothic and luxurious. However, her own style is very mixed and matched, very experimental, and very fun.
Most of her items are from charity shops, vintage shops, though she also loves high street - the lace top in the photo below is from Topshop!
I'm going to focus on her personal style, rather than her stage style, and attempt to find a few items to recreate her look!

I was going to try and pick a favourite item out of the above, but to be honest i love them all! Though i'll probably buy the satchel, as i've been wanting a vintage looking bag for a while, and this is perfect - and really reasonable!

If I could afford it, i'd buy the shoe-boots. they're beautiful!
I'll post pictures of what Florence actually wears when I see her on Sunday :)

Houndstooth.

I want to focus on one of my favourite trends for A/W 09: Houndstooth.
I've always been a fan of Houndstooth, as I think it's quite a classic pattern that has been in and out of style over the decades which is good for two main reasons:
1. If you invest in a houndstooth piece, you can keep it and wear it even when it's not in fashion, by bringing it into trend with a few accessories.

2. It'll be easy to find some vintage houndstooth in charity shops!! It may be a smaller type print that is in fashion at the moment, as prints tend to be more graphic nowadays, but even small print houndstooth is gorgeous.

So here's a few examples of houndstooth (also known as dogtooth!) on the catwalks;

As you can see, the size of the print varied immensly, from Preens extremely oversized graphic prints, to the more classic smaller dogtooth on the Aquascutum mac.
Here are a few high-street picks;
I absolutely love the red dogtooth dress from New Look, it's gorgeous! I also love the french connection dress, though it's slightly out of my price range!

If you aren't feeling quite so frivolous with cash this month, head for dogtooth accessories such as;
. Tights
. Handbags
. Belts
. Hats
. Scarves
. Bangles

and if you're feeling extra creative you could buy dogtooth buttons, or patches of material, to decorate plain items of clothing.

Giles Deacon for New Look

The latest Giles Deacon range for New Look is set to hit stores next Monday, entitled 'Gold' it's his ninth collection for the store, and i've got a sneaky peek into the collection! So here are some of the best bits :)

These are absolutely GORGEOUS. Ankle boots are all the rage this a/w, and the sequins make them a double trend = win, win situation. You really can't go wrong with these!

More sequins! These will definitely get you noticed on a night out. I love that the sequins are on the heel too.

The gladiator trend is still around for A/W but to be worn with thick opaque tights, or with leggings.

I love these shoes, they're quite simple, but the amazing jewels and multi-strap makes them quite eye-catching.

Now onto the clothes! Starting with one of my favourite pieces, this amazing print skirt! I love how the print is very graphic, and quite distorted.

This gorgeous monochrome dress is very on-trend. The emphasised shoulders are very 80s. And I bet the black lines make it very figure-hugging, yet quite flattering, as it really emphasises all those curves!

Wow, i am completely in love with sequins at the moment, and this is brilliant! It's hard to tell from the photo, i think this is one of those items that you need to see and feel the material to appreciate, but from what i can see the material looks so floaty, but it seems to nip in at the waist. This will definitely be an easy to wear party piece that will get you noticed!

This dress is SO Balmain! The emphasised shoulders complete with the intricate detail (looks like studding, though could be sequins!) make this dress almost like designer. It's a very simple classic dress, but is so gorgeous! I love it!

Last, but definitely NOT least. My favourite piece. I'm not sure what it is about it i like, as to be completely honest I dont think it would flatter me at all. But i just love everything about it! The striped pattern, the asymmetric sleeve, the fitted-ness aruond the waist. It's just gorgeous.

I have to say, i honestly think this is the best Giles Deacon collection so far. Not that I have disliked the previous collections, but all these items look very well designed, and definitely have that designer flair about them.

Roll on Monday! Let me know readers if you end up buying anything :)

Guess who's back?

Back again! :)

I haven't posted in quite a few months now, and i'm really sorry about that! But i have been so busy! I can't believe how many followers I have now, considering it's been over 3 months since my last blog, i've got like 63 followers?! How on earth did that happen! Haha!

I'm definitely going to be posting a lot more regularly now :) To keep you going in the mean time, however, here's a video of me competing in the very first episode of New Look TV's Style Wars :)

Let me know what you think of my chosen outfit!

I'll be posting back VERY soon :)
